Film Scoring and Sound Design Workshop
A six-week workshop for teens, young adults, and adults teaching students how to compose cinematic music that evokes emotion using Hollywood style film scoring techniques.

Teens: Wed 4-6pm, Room 121, January 21 - February 25 (6 weeks)
Young Adults: Thu 4-6pm, Room 203, January 22 - February 26 (6 weeks)
Adults: Saturday 3-5pm, Room 203, January 24 - February 28 (6 weeks)
Where: Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N Davie St, Greensboro, NC 27401
Enrollment: This class is limited to 16 students per session.
Tuition: $600 per student, made in two payments of $300. Option to purchase MIDI keyboard (not required).
What to Bring: Students should bring their own personal laptop and may bring over-ear headphones if desired. MIDI keyboards will be provided for in-class use at no additional cost. Students will have the option to purchase the MIDI keyboard after the workshop concludes.
NOTE: Mac laptops are strongly recommended due to software compatibility for this course. Other laptops may be used, but Moore Music Company and Creative Greensboro are not able to provide on site technical support.
About the Instructor
Janet Phillips
Janet Rabin Phillips earned a Masters Degree from the North Carolina University School of the Arts infilm music composition. She studied under David McHugh (Film composer for Mystic Pizza and Three Amigos) and studied audio recording by John Sisti (Oscar winner for best sound in Bram Stoke’s Dracula).
Janet’s skills include music for film, television shows, documentaries, animations, commercials and sound design for games. Janet’s most recent accomplishments include full feature films Christmas in Mistletoe, a psychological thriller Are You There, commercials for The Museum of Science Fiction, Primo Water as well as game sound design for NASA at Virtual Heroes.
Janet created the Film Scoring and Sound Design course at UNCA and is a guest lecturer at many universities. She is also owner of Cinematic Cues, a music licensing portal offering original music for placement in film, tv, corporate videos, video games and advertising. All music is written by professional film composers and provides filmmakers with music for a single scene or an entire score.
