Erik Schmidt

Erik A. Schmidt is currently serving as the graduate teaching assistant for the University of North Carolina in Greensboro's percussion studio under the direction of Dr. Eric Willie and is pursuing a Master of Music degree in performance. He holds his Bachelor of Music degree in performance from Virginia Commonwealth University under the direction of Dr. Justin Alexander. Erik has also studied with such acclaimed percussionists as Peter Martin of Third Coast Percussion; Jim Jacobson of the Richmond Symphony; and Leigh Howard Stevens, pioneer in the world of modern marimba technique.
Erik has had the opportunity to perform with groups such a Eighth Blackbird—Grammy award winning ensemble in residence at the University of Richmond—and the Richmond Pop's Band, where he was a regular member for two years. Private teaching has been a passion of Erik's for many years as part of his commitment to being a positive influence for growth in the percussion and music community. As a result, he has maintained a track record for helping students succeed in their musical goals, including winning placements in district band and orchestra auditions.
