INSTRUMENT REPAIR NOTES

Thank you for choosing Moore Music Company's expert Band and Orchestra Instrument Repair Service!

Here are some helpful notes about instrument repairs:

  •   Responsible Care: The number of instruments that benefit from repair continues to increase. Student players and their instruments benefit if they are always respectful of their instruments and conscious of its fragile nature. The more responsibly you care for your instrument, the more you will enjoy it.

  •   Causes of Damage: Instruments rarely if ever break of their own accord. Over time, minor adjustments and regulation are needed to maintain top play condition. Most often, damage occurs from improper handling, accidents, and sometimes abuse.

  •   Cost of Repairs: We have published a separate information sheet entitled "What Will It Cost?" to help you get a feel for what repairs will cost. If you would like one, just let us know. Moore Music, like most musical instrument companies, offers repair services to better serve our customers. Typically this part of our business is a break-even endeavor. Instrument repair prices are relatively low compared to similar skilled services in other industries like computers and automobiles.

  •   Play Condition: Often a player requests that we return an instrument to good play condition, which we like to do. It is important that, in making this request, the instrument's owner is also agreeing that they trust the professional judgment of our technicians to make whatever adjustments or repairs they believe are needed to achieve acceptable play condition. Please feel comfortable talking to the technician if you have any questions about this.

  •   Estimate of Repair Time and Cost: It's our commitment to repair your instrument both correctly and as quickly as possible. We'll always do our best to accomodate your schedule. At times the volume of work already scheduled when your instrument arrives may delay the repair. We also acknowledge that instrument repair is both art and skill. Thus, the length of time required for a given repair can be upredictable. Often, the extent of the repair reveals itself only as the instrument is disassembled. This same observation also applies to estimates. Please, always feel comfortable in asking for an estimate of time and/or cost, understanding that they may occasionally be somewhat imprecise.

  •   Quick Repairs and Adjustments: SOmetimes one of our staff or a repair technician may be able to complete a quick adjustment, replace a string, pull a stuck mouthpiece, unstick a slide, etc., for you on the spot. We'll always endeavor to be helpful in this situation.

  •   Don't Try This At Home: We urge parents and players to resist trying their hand at instrument repair. Many instruments arrive in our shop requiring extensive work as a result of attempted home repair, which initially would have only required minor adjustments or repair. Additionally, you may void the manufacturer's warranty and rental customers may void the maintenance agreement.

  •   Loaners and Short-Term Leases: Due to the large volume of instruments we repair, we are regrettably unable to to loan instruments for use while your instrument is being serviced. We have a limited number of instruments available on a short-term lease basis. If you are interested in leasing an instrument while your instrument is in our repair show, please contact our band and orchestra departmentto check availability and rates.

Other Important Notes:

  •   Some off-brand instruments can be reliably repaired and some cannot. This is usually because parts are not available or the instrument of sufficient structural quality to sustain the required repair.

  •   We reserve the right to decline any repair.

  •   Vintage and Pro-Line instruments may incur additional repair changes due to lack of available parts.

  •   We will always notify you when your instrument is ready. Any instrument not picked up and paid for within 30 days is considered to be abandoned and will become the property of Moore Music Company unless prior arrangements are made.

Thank you!

Most importantly, thank you for your business. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you. Please let us know if you have a question or suggestion!
